Deadly Chemicals Found in Common Baby Food
Texarkana, AR (UPI) - A mother of three has discovered a chemical contained in baby jars in Texarkana, Arkansas. Officials were brought in to identify the mysterious substance.
Joanne Ivory, 32, was taste-testing a small jar of baby food before feeding it to her youngest son when she discovered the chemical. "I tasted it and something didn't taste right," she said, "I thought I'd better tell someone."
Mrs. Ivory sealed the jar in a baggie and immediately called authorities. Jason Cathcart, a local policeman in Texarkana answered the call, "I came immediately when the dispatcher contacted me. I took the baggie containing the baby food and the foreign substance to our labs downtown."
"After putting the baby jar through several extensive tests," said Scott Shuman, head laboratory forensic scientist at the Texarkana Labs, "I was able to localize and identify the offending substance. It is a form of sodium we refer to as 'table salt' and it's deadly."
"Taken in large doses," states Shuman, "this 'salt' can induce heart attacks and heart disease is the number one killer in America. It's not good for you." Company officials at Gerber have refused to comment on the subject. Mrs. Ivory had no comment on rumors of a possible lawsuit.
